As part of its 35th anniversary year and in celebration of International Compost Awareness Week (May 4–10, 2025), Teton County Integrated Solid Waste and Recycling is making it easier — and more affordable — for local businesses, restaurants, schools and homeowners’ associations to turn food waste into valuable soil.
Through a USDA-funded grant, Teton County’s Curb to Compost food-waste hauling program is offering 50% off collection services through March 31, 2026.
“Running a kitchen, a business or a school cafeteria means juggling a lot — and managing food waste can feel like just one more hassle. Yet it’s one of the more impactful ways to reduce waste and environmental impacts like methane emissions," said Becky Kiefer, ISWR superintendent. "This year, we’re very focused on honing the Curb to Compost program to make food scrap composting for organizations as easy and practical as possible.”
The Teton County Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution on Tuesday, May 6, recognizing International Compost Awareness Week in support of Teton County’s growing community composting operations and the tremendous value of turning organic materials back into soil.
The more organizations that participate in commercial food scrap collection services during the 50% off period, the more likely Teton County can maintain affordable composting services after the subsidy ends. Every new participant strengthens the system and helps protect long-term pricing stability.
"As we celebrate 35 years of community recycling efforts, this new composting incentive represents the next step forward," Kiefer said. "We’re excited to help local businesses, schools and organizations be part of the solution and part of Jackson Hole’s Road to Zero Waste."
Participating businesses and facilities will benefit from:
• Significant savings on food-waste hauling costs;
• Reduced environmental impacts;
• Personalized support, training and materials for easy program startup; and
• The opportunity to contribute to a more sustainable, resilient Jackson Hole.
