The Insurance Services Office (ISO) developed the Insurance Protection System (IPS), which is a rating system that evaluates the fire protection capabilities of communities across the United States. The system assesses how well a community's fire protection services can defend against property loss from fire.
Communities are rated on a scale of 1 to 10, where:
Class 1 = Superior fire protection
Class 10 = Minimal or no recognized fire protection
- Anything within the Town of Jackson limits has an ISO rating of 4.
- Anything within 5 miles of Station 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7 have an ISO of 6.
- Everything else has an ISO Rating of 10.
